Brand Name Taken on Twitter? – How To Get The Ideal Twitter Username

As if running your small business wasn't hard enough, owners now face a new kind of problem. By now, most people have realized that it's important for your band to have some sort of social media presence. But what if your brand's username is already taken by another user on Twitter?

There are two ways you can go about handling your Twitter troubles. The first way you can cope with your brands name being taken is by using a different name. It's not ideal, but right now there are a lot of companies that are doing this; some of them are even large corporations such as Coke. Cannon, Heinz, and BMW are also companies that were not able to use their brands name as their username, but they still manage to use social media effectively. These companies just used a nickname or added “USA”, “Corp”, or some other suffix to their username to make sure people would be able to find them. While this method doesn't offer ideal results, it does save a lot more time as you will see if you read on.

Okay, so now the hard way. Twitter knows how important social media is for your company, so many times they are more than willing to help you obtain your brand's name. It's kind of a lengthy process, but we'll give you a step by step guide on how to get that Twitter name you really want.

Coke Twitter Account

First off, it's always a good idea to directly ask the owner of the username you want. If you approach them in the right way, the owner may cooperate and swap usernames with you and no paperwork is necessary. If for some reason you can not directly contact the owner, then you need to email username@twitter.com in order to request a username swap. Please note, that the person you are reporting must be an inactive account OR impersonating you. If your case doesn't meet at least one of these criteria, then chances are Twitter will not acknowledge your request.

Things You Need:

  • Username of the account you are reporting (URL also works)

  • Your company or brand name

  • Your current company account

  • Your first and last name

  • Title

  • Address

  • Phone

  • Fax

  • Company website

  • Company email address

  • Registration trademark #

  • Requested Action

If emailing Twitter is unsuccessful for some reason, you can open a support ticket as a last ditch effort. In the same way you emailed Twitter, make sure you are as detailed as possible. If the support ticket doesn't work, then unfortunately you are out of luck. You can continue trying to contact the owner, and try emailing Twitter again in a few months.

Not having your brand's name as your username is inconvenient, but it's not the end of the world. Like we said earlier, there are plenty of companies that manage to use social media effectively despite not having their ideal username. Owning your own company requires you to be creative, so why not channel that creativity into your Twitter username. Goodluck!

Pandora Vs. Spotify: The Battle For Streaming Supremacy

For years, Pandora let users stream music for free with no competition from other sites. However, now our company has choices when it comes to streaming music in the office.

There's Pandora, Spotify, Jango, Groove Shark, and many others. While there are tons of alternatives to choose from when it comes to streaming music, I'm going to stick to talking about the battle between Pandora and Spotify. So, why only talk about Pandora and Spotify when there are so many other sites out there? We feel that even though there are many sites that offer free streaming music, Spotify and Pandora are both on the right track. Especially when it comes to the premium version of their sites.

Pandora One (3.99/ Month)

-No Advertising

-Higher Music Quality

-More Skips Allowed

-Custom Skins

Vs.

Spotify Premium (9.99 / Month)

-Unlimited listening

-Access to Spotify from your mobile phone

-Ability to keep your playlists private

-Download music & listen offline

-No advertisements

Looking at the two lists, I think it is apparent that Spotify has more to offer. But is it worth the extra 6 dollars per month? If you want my opinion, I say that it is definitely worth the extra 6 dollars; and the reason being that Spotify lets you listen to whatever you want even on your cell phone. The days of mp3 players are quickly becoming a thing of the past. Whenpeople want music on-the-go, they listen to it on their phone. It doesn't make sense anymore to carry around a cell phone and an mp3 player.

I don't want this article to just be us bashing Pandora and praising Spotify though. While Spotify offers many features such as radio, custom playlists, and the ability to follow artists; Pandora really only has one feature. I think simplicity is a lost art, and it is refreshing when a company decides to take the simple route. Pandora offers custom radio stations. And Pandora does a good job of creating custom stations based on the music that you like, which is an area that Spotify struggles in. Pandora has introduced me to countless new bands that I might never have had the chance to listen to if it wasn't for Pandora.

Spotify vs. Pandora

So the question still remains, which site do you choose to pay for? Honestly, Spotify and Pandora work great as a team. Pandora does a great job of introducing users to new music (for free), and Spotify lets you listen to that awesome new music all you want, wherever you want. Who knows, maybe Spotify and Pandora will be one company in the future, and users have a one stop shop for listening to good music.
